How To Make Your Own Caffeine-Free Super Potion

May 11, 2022

Caffeine is an absolute must for some people to get out of the door in the morning. But too much caffeine can cause dehydration, exhaustion of the adrenal glands (fatigue), impaired digestion, and dependency. There are much better ways to get a boost any time of day. These super caffeine-free potions are full of anti-inflammatory ingredients for digestion, protein for concentration, and vitamins to stabilize blood sugar levels without any jittery side effects. Here is how to make one.

Choose A Base

A base is what the majority of the beverage will be made of. This recipe is for a hot drink, but it can be poured over ice on hot days for a refreshing treat. The base can be as simple as hot water for those who wish to cut calories or warm nut milk for a delicious flavor. Brewed herbal tea or caffeine-free coffee can also be used. Choose one that provides complimentary flavors that will not overpower the rest of the drink, such as a mellow, caffeine-free green tea.

Throw In Some Superfoods

Most people mistake the need for caffeine with the need for a quick vitamin, mineral or protein fix. Adding superfoods to this drink will provide lots of energy for improved concentration. Unlike caffeine, there will be no spikes or crashes. Play around with the different flavors of detoxifying greens such as spirulina or chlorella and a plant-based, anti-inflammatory protein powder, such as hemp, collagen, or pine. Start with a small pinch and add more if needed.

Insert a Good Source Of Fat

Do not cringe at the thought of fat! There are plenty of good, healthy sources out there to help absorb nutrients, improve concentration, and keep hunger at bay. Adding coconut oil, ghee, or MCT oil is an excellent way to bring this potion together. It will add a creamy, rich texture to give the drink a latte-like finish. Start by adding a teaspoon of fat and use a blender or foamer to mix everything together. Adding all the ingredients together in a mason jar and giving it a good shake will do the trick, too.

Directions

Simmer approximately twenty milliliters of the base (water, nut milk, etc.) over low heat on the stove. Then add one teaspoon each of the following: fat (ghee or coconut oil), a superfood herb in powder form (spirulina, ginger, ashwagandha, or turmeric) and a source of plant-based protein, such as collagen, pine, or help powder. A sweetener is optional but should be from a natural source such as maple syrup, raw honey or coconut sugar. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend on high for one minute. Pour into a mug and enjoy!
