Chocolate is widely enjoyed by many and is often the most popular choice for a sweet treat. Unfortunately, it is also very high in sugar which makes it high in calories. However, cutting chocolate out entirely is not necessary. There are healthy options available. For example, dark chocolate has more cocoa and less sugar, which results in it having fewer calories. Whereas white chocolate is made entirely of cocoa butter and sugar, with no cocoa at all. This makes it very fattening. Dark chocolate is the healthier option not only because it has a lower calorie count, but it is also rich in antioxidants, high in fiber and minerals such as magnesium and iron.

Eating salad packed with vegetables is always the healthier option. However, what many people do not realize is that salad dressings are typically very high in calories. For example, French salad dressing is mainly sugar, oil, and mustard, and depending on the brand, can have as many as 150 calories per serving. Additionally, alternative dressings like caesar or ranch are rich in dairy, mayonnaise and other sources of saturated fats. Using a homemade balsamic vinaigrette for salads is a great alternative to reduce calories while adding tons of flavor.
