Fun And Healthy Fall Activities

September 7, 2023

The morning breaks with sunlight over the hills, and you step outside and are met with a chill in the air that announces fall has arrived. At last the sweltering temperatures of the stifling summer months has broken, and all the sweaters and jackets can be unpacked and hung neatly in the closets and worn again. However, the change in wardrobe is not the only change that happens, as the seasons shift. The activity level of individuals confined indoors for months changes, and sedentary bodies rejoice at the opportunity to go outside and get active with many options to get active in the fall.

Going For A Fall Hike

Going for a fall hike is a seasonal favorite. There is just something about the sensation of a cool, crisp walk out in nature to start the day. Everything is quiet, except the sound of your steps echoing against the cedars and pines. Your breath clouds in front of you, and you wrap your scarf around your neck and pull your gloves and jacket tighter onto your body. Indeed, for months your muscles have been in ache to be used, and each step energizes them, as they perform their normal function. Far away from the stress of the day, you have time to think about how good it is to be alive.

Visiting A Pumpkin Patch

Perhaps, you want to plan a family outing of visiting a pumpkin patch. Pumpkins are for many the unofficial initiation symbol of the fall season. While their use as Jack-o'-lanterns won't come till later in the season, they have many other practical purposes. Companies even race to be the first to announce their pumpkin spice coffees and baked goods, and a pumpkin pie with coffee is a wonderful meal on a cool night to re-center yourself and connect with the individuals and nature around you. However, picking out the pumpkins can often be a fun and exciting event. Many locations that sell them provide family activities and sights, and it is a memory kids will remember for years to come.

Go Apple Picking

Going apple picking is another fun family event for developing great fall memories as well. Some individuals do not know what it is like to experience picking their own food to eat straight from nature. Whether it be carrots, berries, nuts, or fruit; it is more meaningful to get it straight from the earth, reminding us of the source of the items we buy on store shelves. It isn't just that they are free of the chemical preservatives and insecticides companies use. They are more flavorful as well. When you bite into a store bought apple, you taste the cold skin of the apple. However, when you bite into a hand-picked apple, you taste flavor. Also, apple picking events have similar family activities as the pumpkin patches have to enjoy.

Play Touch Football

Of course, many men have their own internal clock that clicks down to the start of the fall season, and that clock is the number of days to football season. When those days arrive, it is their time to put away the flip-flops and shorts, don the celebrated team jersey, and gather with other men for the ritual grunts and cheers of their unifying teams. They also often pull out their own footballs to hold during those games and toss around with their friends as they watch. As competition between the teams builds, so does the competition between friends. What better way to alleviate this tension than a to play touch football in the backyard, breathing the fall air and stretching their muscles as they strain to get open and catch the winning goal.

Play In The Leaves

As mom cooks and decorates in the home, and dad tosses around the pigskin; the young and the young at heart have an opportunity to engage in a more simple yet rich activity: to play in the leaves. There is probably no more classic sensation that confirms autumn than when nature displays the splash of many colors of the fall leaves, and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot scratches an internal itch you cannot satisfy anywhere else. Unless you have had the opportunity to gather and jump in a leaf pile, at least once, fall cannot be allowed to pass.
