The most common side effect of vitamin B5 supplements is an upset stomach. Other frequently reported side effects include constipation, diarrhea, headaches, sore throat, nausea, dizziness, and abdominal pain. Vitamin B5 supplements may cause new-onset diabetes or urinary tract infections in some patients. Other side effects to watch out for are a lack of energy, joint pain, and muscle pain.

This drug could cause changes in blood test results, such as increased creatine phosphokinase (CPK) or increased alanine transaminase (ALT). Some patients have developed pancreatitis while using pantothenic acid. These supplements may also cause flu-like symptoms. Rarely, patients taking this medicine have noticed jaundice, muscle disease, or muscle wasting. Patients should let their doctor know that they use pantothenic acid. They should report any new or troubling side effects promptly. Urgent medical attention is necessary if the supplement causes severe vomiting or diarrhea.
