Besides its use for clearing up the bacterial infection of prostatitis, ciprofloxacin has been used to treat people with prior exposure to anthrax. It belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics and is used for prostatitis infections caused by Escherichia coli, Proteus species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and other Enterobacteriaceae such as Klebsiella, Enterobacter, and Serratia species. A serious warning of its use includes the potential to cause tendon damage. Limiting caffeine is recommended while on the medication.
