Nipple changes, including unusual discharge or retraction, can be significant indicators of breast cancer. Discharge that is clear, bloody, or occurs without squeezing the nipple should be evaluated promptly. Similarly, if the nipple begins to pull inward or becomes inverted, it may signal underlying changes in the breast tissue structure. These symptoms can result from changes in the ducts or the presence of a tumor, highlighting the need for immediate medical assessment to rule out cancerous causes.

4. Skin Texture Changes

Alterations in the skin texture of the breast, such as dimpling or puckering, can mimic the appearance of an orange peel, known medically as peau d'orange. These changes occur when lymphatic fluid accumulates in the breast tissue, often due to an obstruction caused by a tumor. While such skin changes can also result from benign conditions, they should be evaluated to exclude inflammatory breast cancer, a rare but aggressive form of the disease. Early detection of these textural changes can facilitate prompt treatment and better prognoses.
