Signs Of A Sociopath

They Lack Empathy And Remorse

TSB

Sociopaths don't experience emotions like most individuals, and they surely don't have much compassion for their fellow humans. They lack the ability to share in the emotions of others, although they can be good actors. What is most disturbing is it's common for sociopaths to take pleasure in the pain of others. Most individuals cringe when they see others in pain because they remember or imagine what it would feel like. They certainly don't smile or laugh at that pain.

Speaking of pain, don't expect sociopaths to show any remorse for the pain they cause or the evil they do. They lack empathy and remorse because they simply don't experience shame or emotions associated with it. They will cause pain indirectly with their lies and manipulation. They will even intentionally hurt others. Most often sociopaths will hurt others with words and actions in ways that don't involve physical harm. However, they can sometimes be aggressive, uninviting, and quite dangerous. Their relationships often suffer since sociopaths can't relate, since they have an incapacity for love.

They Don't Employ Delusional And Irrational Thinking

Individuals depend on reason and rational methods of thinking to build whatever they need to build. However, humans are also emotional creatures which dream big dreams and feel the best and worst of the body's emotions. Perhaps it is the inability to feel common emotions that make sociopaths so practical and logical. They do not act delusional, but this doesn't mean they do not have mental and emotional problems rooted in sociopathy. They are surprisingly very rational beings, but just because sociopaths are rational doesn't mean they are motivated by morals.

Sociopaths are dependent on rationalizations. Without them, their deceit might come to light. Delusional and irrational thinking doesn't help those rationalizations. Delusions of grandeur are more fitting of a narcissist. Irrational thinking is more common among those easily affected or swayed by their emotions, especially the particularly anxious and nervous. Sociopaths are more detached from their feelings, so they don't exhibit irrational forms of thinking or come across as delusional.
