Derived from the seeds of the Plantago ovata plant, psyllium husk is a widely recognized soluble fiber supplement often used for constipation relief. However, its benefits extend far beyond regularity. As a powerful prebiotic, it ferments in the gut, producing short-chain fatty acids that nourish colon cells and support a healthy gut lining. It also helps manage cholesterol and blood sugar. Psyllium husk forms a gel in water, which can be particularly soothing for an irritated gut and effective in maintaining overall bowel health.

Often overshadowed by its fermented cousin sauerkraut, raw or lightly cooked cabbage is a powerhouse in its own right for gut health. It's rich in insoluble fiber, which adds bulk to stool and promotes regularity, as well as soluble fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria. Cabbage also contains compounds like sulforaphane, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties beneficial for the gut lining. Moreover, it's a good source of L-glutamine, an amino acid crucial for repairing and maintaining the intestinal barrier, making it excellent for leaky gut support.
