It may sound like a dream come true when you’re told that drinking red wine can be good for the heart. The antioxidants and flavonoids that are found in red wine have proven to support heart health by reducing the levels of a protein that contributes to blood clotting. Drinking red wine may also further protect the heart by increasing HDL cholesterol, which is more commonly known as the good cholesterol.

However, it is important to remember to drink in moderation. The amount of drinks that benefit health happens to be one to two drinks per day for men and one per day for women. Drinking more alcohol can increase the risk of developing alcoholism, breast cancer, high blood pressure, obesity, and stroke.
