Little-Known Signs Your Thyroid Is Out of Whack

An underactive thyroid can directly compromise your immune system, leaving you more vulnerable to common infections. Thyroid hormones are essential for the proper functioning of your immune cells. When they are in short supply, your body’s ability to defend itself against viruses and bacteria is diminished. You might find yourself catching colds and other infections more frequently or taking longer to recover. This weakened state is a subtle but important red flag that your thyroid is not providing the hormonal support your immune system needs.

32. Chronic Low Body Temperature

If you consistently feel cold and have a body temperature that is below the normal range, it could be a sign of hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland is a key regulator of your body’s internal thermostat. When your thyroid is underactive, your metabolism slows down, leading to a decreased ability to generate heat. This can result in a chronic feeling of coldness, particularly in your hands and feet, which is often a first sign of a deeper issue with your thyroid function.
